Raise (Poker)
The action of betting more than is required to continue in the hand. Can be followed by a re-raise. With no limit poker any amount can be bet as a raise.
Rake (Poker)
The amount of money that the casino or poker room takes out of every pot. It is this way that the casinos make money from poker players.
Rank
The value of a particular hand versus another hand. For example the royal flush is the highest ranked poker hand.
Royal Flush (Poker Casino Games)
The best poker hand. Consists of a 10, Jack, Queen, King and Ace, all of the same suit. Also called a royal straight flush.
Shoe (Card Games)
The box on the gaming table where cards are stored before being dealt to players.
Shooter (Craps)
The player at the craps table who is rolling the dice.
Snake Eyes (Craps)
Refers to the dice landing on 1 and 1 in a craps game. The two dots for the ones resemble eyes hence the name.
Soft Hand (Blackjack)
A hand that has an Ace in it which can be either 11 or 1. For example if you have Ace Five your hand can either be 16 or 6.
Split Bet (Roulette)
A bet on the roulette table that covers two numbers. The chip is placed on the line between the two.
Stand (Blackjack)
To keep your current hand total and take no more additional cards
Stickman
The dealer who calls the rolls and uses the stick to collect bets from the table
Straight (Poker - see Video Poker)
A poker hand that consists of five consecutive cards of different suits.
Straight Flush (Poker - see Video Poker)
A poker hand that consists of five consecutive cards of the same suit. If the straight flush is Ace high it becomes a royal flush.
Suit
Any of the four types of cards in a deck: Clubs, Hearts, Spades or Diamonds.
Three of a Kind (Poker - see Video Poker)
A poker hand consisting of three cards of the same value and two different cards. For example Ace, Ace, Ace, Five, Four.
Trips
A common abbreviation used for three of a kind
Two Pair
A poker hand that consists of two sets of pairs. For example, K, K, 2, 2, 7
Video Poker
An electronic game of five card draw poker. Comes in many variations such as Jacks or Better, Double Bonus and Joker Poker.
Wager
To gamble or bet money on any event occurring or not occurring.
Whale
The name for a player who gives a lot of action to the casino. Typically whales get preferential treatment from casinos such as private jets and special suites.
Wired cards (Poker - see Video Poker)
In poker, a pair, trips, or four of a kind dealt consecutively/back-to-back in a hand.
